Havering Libraries - Competitions
Silly Squad Competitions
The Havering Libraries 'Silly Squad' Reading Challenge has launched. We hope many of you have signed up to be a part of it this summer.
They are also running four competitions for children and families to get involved in:
-
Write a short story
-
Make a piece of artwork
-
Compose a poem
-
Write a book review
Details of each competition is attached. Prizes will be awarded for all the winning entries in the Autumn Term. Make your entries full of fun, laughter and happiness and hopefully they will bring lots of smiles, giggles and some big belly laughs to all who reads them!
The closing date for the competitions is Saturday 5th September 2020. You can visit the following website for more information on how to enter or go to the Havering Libraries Facebook page: https://www.havering.gov.uk/info/20039/libraries/799/havering_libraries_silly_squad_2020
Good luck!
Silly Posts for Social Media
Havering Libraries would also love to feature children and their families on their Facebook page doing silly things to celebrate 'Silly Squad' this summer. Feel free to send in pictures of you with your favourite funny books - maybe pulling a funny face or striking a silly pose, or a picture of you reading in a funny place, or eating a funny snack whilst reading! You could also send in your favourite joke - the funnier, the better! You can send them in via their Facebok messenger or post them directly to their Facebook page. If you share them in this way, they will take this as your permission to share them with their audience.

COVID-19 Book for Children
You may already be aware, but Axel Scheffler has illustrated a book about Covid-19
Coronavirus just for children - and it's available as a FREE download!
The Gruffalo illustrator worked with consultant Professor Graham Medley, two head
teachers and a psychologist to make sure the book got the messages right, answering
questions about quarantine, how you can catch the virus and what happens if you get ill.
Publishers Nosy Crow have asked for donations in lieu of payment, to go to our
fantastic health workers: http://www.nhscharitiestogether.co.uk/

Lexia Core5 Reading can be used at home for extra practice. Getting started is easy!
To use on a computer, go to www.lexiacore5.com.
To use on an iPad, download the free Lexia Core5 Reading app from the App Store.
(iPad support is limited to these devices: iPad 4+, iPad Mini 3+, iPad Air+, and iPad Pro.)
The first time your child uses Core5, you may need to enter the teacher email shown below. Your child can then log in with the username and password used at school.
Teacher Email (for setup): lexia@risepark-jun.havering.sch.uk
It is important that your child works without any help while using Core5. All of the work your child does at home is recorded and reported to school.
The children should all know their usernames and passwords but if your child can't please contact the school and we will do our best to forward it to you.

Pupil Property Collection
Dear Parents/Carers,
If your child has left any personal property at school e.g. P.E.kit, other uniform, lunchboxes etc. then please do not visit the school site at the present time in order to collect any of these items.
Once it is safe to do so, these will all be available, in class boxes, for you to collect from a nominated central point, details of which will be advised to you as soon as possible. With thanks for your continued support and understanding.
